The steps toward adopting
a dog or cat....

All of these animals have had a rough start, so we need to ensure that they are going to go to good, understanding forever homes. Upon meeting with us and choosing which friend you would like to adopt, we will do a home check.

This consists of ensuring your yard is securely fenced in. Shelter is provided, whether it be in your home or a dog house outside.

We prefer the dogs to have a companion, especially if they are going to be outside dogs.
Our dogs are not to be chained up, a kennel is fine as long as they won't be spending all their time confined to a small space. Heart worm preventative, worming and tick control will need to be on going, this can be expensive so you need to be able to provide this. If for some reason you cannot keep your new friend, we will come and collect them.

They are to be returned to us, not passed on to anyone else, although you can recommend someone and the above steps will be repeated. In return, you will be receiving a totally healthy, spayed or neutered, house trained, kid friendly companion. If you need any advice or help, we are only a phone call away.

We do ask for a contribution from those who decide to adopt from us to enable to Haven to continue its work.

paw ANIMALS LOOKING FOR A HOME...

THE THREE ORPHANS
Just before Christmas, i was contacted about a littler of orphan pups about 2 weeks old.
They were found underneath a house, the mum had passed. 9 babies then quickly went down to three, due we think to a liver condition which might have come from the mum. It was a very busy and heartbreaking Christmas and New Year here at the Haven.

The three gorgeous boys we have left will soon be up for adoption! Being hand reared they are super friendly and trusting! They are very clean and extremely happy!!

Orphan1
Orphan 2 Orphan 3

I received a phone call just over a week ago to meet up with a lovely lady who had bought some supplies for us and was helping out at the School for the Deaf" in Leathy, she was very concerned about the little family of dogs there.

We took them off and got them all spayed and neutered, but there was something wrong with little "Trinity" he is currently here at the Haven on a soft food diet due to a very very narrow pelvis! Will explain more when I know more!

Trinity
Tina
Tiny Tina
came all the way from Treasure Beach where she was found with a severe case of pneumonia. After her treatment we found out what a super special little star she is! She needs a really great loving home!
Tiny Tina is 8 weeks old!
Meet Marley, a playful company-loving eight-month-old female, who is
more than ready for her forever home. Marley was a stray from a litter
in Bogue village who was being cared for and who would board occasionally at the Haven. Circumstances have changed and she now needs a new permanent home. She is a good little watch and loves human company. Ideally she would be placed in a home where someone would be about most of the day or where there was another dog
Little Gem
Little Gem: was found in the Great River area full of worms and
fleas. She was tiny and suffering a particularly vicious parasite which while usually easy to treat is challenging in Jamaica due to the
availability of specialized drugs.
She’s a real little trooper with a
fantastic disposition who is thriving now fully recovered and is ready
for her new home.
Ruby Tuesday
These two lovely dogs were found at Hopewell as starving strays. After being fed for over 3 weeks by our shelter owner, these pair decided that they wanted to go home with her and followed the car! Worried that they would follow her on to the busy road, we made room for them back at the shelter and their tails have been wagging ever since! A mother and daughter team, these two need to be re homed together. They are so friendly to humans that we suspect they have had previous owners and they have been dumped. They have so much love to give and just want human affection. We think that Ruby is around 3 years and Tuesday is approximately 6 months old. Both have now been spayed. Due to a protective streak in Tuesday after her tough life as a stray, these two need to be placed in a forever home with no other dogs.
Chi Chi is a very beautiful dog. She has had a hard time trusting humans as they have let her down time and time again. She was re homed previously to Chi Chipeople who ended up treating her very badly.Because of this, Chi Chi is learning to slowly trust again and is very quiet. She desperately needs a loving home with people who will show her patience and understanding. Once she gets to know you her comical side shines through and she truly is a delightful dog. Gentle with children and desperate to be loved, Chi Chi really deserves that happy ending. We think that she is approximately 5 years old and has been spayed.
Bling - Special Case

Bling currently lives at our shelter with her mum. She has had an extremely bad start in life and witnessed her mum go through some of the worst abuse our shelter director has ever seen. Her mum will now live at the shelter forever as her emotional state will take a long time, if ever to heal. Bling will take time to heal emotionally as well but she does, however, have the chance to lead a normal life with the right people.
BlingWe are looking for a specialist home with people who have the patience and time to invest in her. She needs a calm, quiet and stable environment, preferably with no young children. Bling is approximately 1 year old and spayed.

Bumble - Special Case

Bumble is another of our special case dogs and is very nervous and mistrusting of humans. Bumble would suit a home with no young children as he needs a quiet and stable environment with forever owners willing to commit to a slow emotional rehabilitation. He is a very handsome dog and we estimate that he is around 18 months old. Bumble and our other special case dog Bling have become good friends and it would be nice to see them rehomed together however this is not essential.
Bumble
Mandy
Mandy has been rehomed before but ended up running away and finding her way back to the shelter! She is our resident queen bee and can be very vocal! Mandy has beautiful markings on her coat and has a very "regal" pose! She enjoys being a house dog and keeping everything in order! Mandy is very good natured and loves being around family and children.
Mandy
We think Mandy is approximately 8 years old and is spayed
Wiskey Brandy
Whiskey and Brandy
Whiskey is a very lucky pup indeed! His mother was killed leaving a litter of puppies scared and helpless. He was rescued during a 4 am mission to save the litter and came to stay at the shelter. Brandy is also approx 2 years old and has been spayed.
Both dogs are super friendly and just adore human attention. They are inseparable and we would love to keep them together in their new home. They are both very gentle, affectionate dogs and are great around children. These pair are desperate for forever owners to love!
GRACE
This adorable girl was found wandering along the top road completely emaciated but somehow she managed to give birth to a whole litter of healthy pups that were found in a nearby cave. Grace is very loving, loyal and playful. She loves to bark to let you know someone is approaching the house so would make a great alert dog. She keeps herself very clean and enjoys being a house dog, curling up on your lap!

Grace
Grace would make an excellent companion for some lucky human. Grace is approximately 4 years and has been spayed.

Miss Bee
Miss Bee is a little bit awkward, very comical and so gentle. She is in desperate need of a loving home.

Miss Bee, has been with us since she was about 6 weeks old. She is very shy until she gets to know you, and then incredibly loving and very loyal. A good little alarm dog as not much passes her! Miss B is about 2 years old now, spayed and healthy.
She was one of three that were rescued from waste land and is a real sweetheart when she gains her confidence with you.

Little Girl Sugar Plum
These striking girls were found as strays at Mango walk area. After the rest of Little Girls litter died, she and her last puppy, Sugarplum, formed a close bond and ideally need to be rehomed together. Due to previous abuse from humans, both dogs are very timid and wary of people initially. Over time however, they are keen to trust and they are extremely loyal dogs. These dogs need to go to a forever home that offers lots of patience and perseverance in gaining their trust and in return you will be rewarded with truly loyal, loving and devoted pets that are great watch dogs! Little Girl is approx 3 years old and Sugar Plum is approx 1 year old. Both have been spayed.
Frieda
Frieda is very shy but extremely loyal. She is selective in her affection and is nervous at first but once she gets to know you she is very playful and loving. She is a quiet dog and would suit a forever home with no young children. Frieda is approximately 2 years old and has been spayed.

Frieda

Mummi B
We estimate that Mummy B is approximately 4 years old and has been spayed.
Mummy B has such a playful, loving nature! She is an exceptional judge of character and loves to meet and greet visitors to give them the "mummy b seal of approval!" She loves playing but also has an independent streak so is happy to have some quiet time to herself as well. This little girl also loves to go on trips in the car, often acting co pilot and speaking directions to you as you go!
