St.James College Students Visit
Students from St James' College in Montego Bay have paid us a visit.
The youngsters spent a Saturday morning at the Animal Haven learning more about the work we do and meeting our many residents.
Meet and Greet
Pumpkin was first to meet and greet the group, dispelling the illusion
(as he always does) that pitbulls are a vicious fighting breed and
then the young people helped clean and feed our birds and met the cats and dogs. Particular favourites were the puppies, naturally.
What was heartening was that some of the students had visited us last
year and were asking after animals which had been there then. Several
times over we were able to tell them that the individuals they were
asking for had been successfully re-homed and that really summed up
what we're all about!

SPAY AND NEUTER CLINIC
   A MASSIVE SUCCESS
!!
Some 240 animals underwent surgery during the International Spay and
Neuter Network’s most recent free clinic. Vets from overseas spent three days working at the Elliston Wakeland Centre in Falmouth, Trelawny, averaging some 70 cats and dogs each day. While the majority of those who underwent surgery were strays, some responsible pet owners otherwise unable to meet the cost of the operation took advantage to have their animals spayed and neutered to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Free worming treatment was also offered to those who brought their animals along.
ISNN has staged several clinics in recent years in Jamaica in their
on-going crusade to reduce the number of strays on our streets on each occasion. The clinic takes place at the Elliston Wakeland
Centre, off RodneyStreet, Falmouth, between 8.30am and 2pm on each
day. Animals being bought for surgery should not eat for at least 12 hours before. The vets will also be offering free worming treatment.

Help for litte dog Amelia
Montego Bay Animal Haven has been working closely with Vet4Pets
veterinary clinic to help a little dog, Amelia, who strayed into a
yard and had acid poured onto her back leg. Amelia’s owners contacted the Haven for help as they did not know where to turn. She was anaemic from her injury her leg had basically melted off from the acid. She is still undergoing treatment to stabilize her before she can undergo surgery to tidy up the wound.

Meet Pumpkin
The Haven’s very own pitbull Pumpkin continues to be a great representative for our charity. Our gentle giant has been involved in several educational visits and is one of our main meet and
greeters when visitors come to the Haven. He is a prime example of all that is good about the breed which,
in Victorian times, were used as nanny dogs to keep a watch on children. Hard to believe that only a few months ago we feared we were going to lose him through a combination of poisoning and tick fever.
You rock, Pumpkin!
